Lanre Jacob foundation is a Christian Public Charity or
Community Foundation established for the offering of hope and encouragement to
those affected by the cancer, Dermatofibrosarcoma.
Vision
To offer spiritual
solution and physical help to people affected by Dermatofibrosarcoma in
Nigeria.
Mission
To work as a
Non-profit Christian Organization, for the creation of public awareness about
sarcoma cancer, and to offer spiritual, psychological and, financial assistance
to people with sarcoma, thereby helping them to have victory over the disease,
spiritually, and to overcome the trauma associated with sarcoma, when it is
treated medically, and to live normal and productive lives.
Now, Attention for Sarcoma Patients!
In a country
where the health of the people is largely neglected, Sarcoma cancer patients
are totally left to themselves before, during and after treatments [which, in
most cases, come through surgery].
By the grace of
God, Jacob’s parents, who were peasant farmers, carried the financial burden of
the surgical operations of the cancer growths, until he grew to be able to pay
some of the bills. There was no help, either from any government or organization.
Many Sarcoma
cancer patients die eventually, because of lack of attention. Others who
survive are not provided the easy platforms for integration into the community,
so they can be significantly engaged, contribute their quota, and live
meaningful lives.
Lanre Jacob Sarcoma Foundation is established to fill this
gap in Nigeria.
Our Belief
As a Christian
Non-profit Organization, we believe in divine healing. We believe that God has
provided healing for those who will believe through Jesus Christ. So we offer
prayer of faith for those who are afflicted with Sarcoma cancer – or any form
of sicknesses – and believe God for result.
However, we
also believe that God has given man the ability to tap into nature to proffer
medical solutions to diverse sicknesses and diseases. However, many sicknesses
defy medical solution.
Having being
secured in the assurance that we are in Christ, what is important is to search
the will of God through His Spirit in every situation of our life, including
when sickness come, and take step of faith to locate where our healing miracle
has been divinely provided – either in the church or in the hospital.
Indeed, all the
eight growths in Jacob’s scalp were excised through surgery. It is however a
miracle that despite the long history of the cancer on his head, there is no
trace of metastasis – a situation in which the cancer cells spread to other
parts of the body. Glory to God!
Sarcoma, a Rare, Silent
Skin Cancer…
According to medical
research, Dermato-fibro-sarcoma is a very rare cancer that
appears as tumor on the skin and is usually treated through surgery. It happens
to all races of people but it occurs more among the black people.
It is not
known, the rate at which this cancer occur to people Nigeria, neither is it
certain that there is national data on how many people are dying as a result of
this cancer annually in the country. It is believed that, outside the medical
circle, very little is known about sarcoma cancer in Nigeria.
Lanre Jacob, the initiator of this
Foundation, himself, was hit with dermatofibrosarcoma at the age of ten, and
knew nothing about the cancer until after eight surgeries had been carried out
on his head!
Who is Lanre Jacob?
Lanre Oluwawomisan Jacob, a Nigerian, is an itinerant Evangelist
from Ondo State. He is the President of the Shelter Ministry International. A Hero by Grace,
Evangelist Jacob is surely a sign and wonder in our time. He is a true
testimony of God’s mercy and grace. At a very tender age, a little growth was
found on his head. Later the growth was diagnosed to be Dermato-fibro-sarcoma –
a cancerous tumor. Due to its malignancy, the tumors were removed eight times
by surgical operations.

To be alive is to work!
Apart from
being a preacher of the word, Lanre Jacob, an alumnus of the University of
Lagos, is also the MD/CEO of Mervellieux-Jah
Concepts, a publishing and production outfit in Lagos.
As a book editor, translator, poet and playwright, Lanre has put
the cancer experience behind him and courageously uses his writings and
messages to inspire the people, especially the Nigerian youths, to arise and
see positive opportunities in the midst of the current challenges in the
country.
To be saved is to serve!
Despite his
commitment to the gospel and writing, however, Lanre Jacob also decided to
offer helping hands to people affected by Dermato-fibro-sarcomaprotuberans.
The Lanre Jacob Sarcoma Foundation, as a community charity, hopes to work with well meaning people in
Nigeria and across the world, to provide support for those who are traumatized
because of the incident of this cancer in Nigeria.
Lanre Jacob believes that with absolute
trust in God, better awareness about the cancer and willingness of the society
to offer helping hands, more and more people will live to tell their stories,
as the Lord is giving him grace to do.
Operations
Currently, our
group, under the umbrella of Shelter Ministry, visits hospitals to pray for
people with sarcoma and other illnesses, and to offer helping hands as the
situations demands, according to the current capacity of the Foundation. We
hope to increase our activities to cover the scope of our vision and mission,
as the Lord helps us to increase in human, financial and material resources.
Sources of Fund for the Foundation
The primary
source of fund for the works of the Foundation will come through the Shelter
Ministry and earnings from Lanre Jacob’s creative works. Lanre Jacob has given
40% of the proceeds from his works to the cause of the Sarcoma Foundation.
As a public
charity, the Foundation will also receive contributions from a wide range of
sources, which include individuals, Corporate Organizations, governments and
other NGOs.
